Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can I join a dana (meal offering) on a day that is booked?
YES. If you would like to make an offering for a meal on a day that has already been booked, please feel free to come along and join in with a lunch offering.
2. How many monks/nuns/lay people will be there?
To see how many monks, nuns and eight precept lay guests will be at Newbury on a given date, please refer to the numbers on the dana calendar below.
3. Are there dietary requirements?
Although vegetarian meals are encouraged, the monastics accept whatever food is offered.
4. Can I cook at the monastery?
To comply with the safety requirements of physical distancing during the COVID period, the kitchen will not be available for food preparation.

5. How much food should I bring?
If you have made a booking to bring full dana (all items for the lunch), please bring enough for the listed number of monastics, eight-precept lay residents, and your own group only.
We are not able to store all leftovers. Your assistance in taking the leftovers home is appreciated.
Please note that NBM monastics and residents do not take dinner.
5. How to Reschedule a Booking
Our online system allows you to conveniently reschedule a booking yourself. If you originally made your booking online, you can use the reschedule link which was sent with the confirmation email (up to 48 hrs before time of original booking).
If your booking was originally made in phone or in person, or there it is less than 48 hrs before the planned booking, you must contact the monastery to update your booking.
If you have booked a lunch offering, the monastic/s will be relying on you to provide the main meal for the day, therefore, it is important that if you cannot make the offering as booked, please contact the monastery as soon as possible so that alternative arrangements can be made.
6. How to Cancel a Booking
If you originally made your booking online, you can cancel the booking yourself using the cancellation link which was sent with the confirmation email (up to 48 hrs before time of original booking).
If your booking was originally made in phone or in person, or there it is less than 48 hrs before the planned booking, you must contact the monastery to on 03 5424 1812 to cancel your booking.
